Business applications that benefit from using electronic meetings

Policy development – government, academic and subject matter experts from several countries collaborated in a web poll meeting. They all rated a large number of proposed options/activities and explained any disagreement with a proposed option. Using the internet rather than convening a face to face meeting saved time and cost of global travel. It also permitted unparalleled opportunity for all views to be expressed and captured.

Project team collaboration – subject matter experts, working in parallel, simultaneously entered the specifications for their part of a new project. The requirements document, available in its entirety, was available to all throughout the process. It was completed in a matter of days rather than weeks or months. Estimating the cost savings of using this approach was simple compared to the previous process of having each team work alone, submit their product to the team leader for integration with other inputs, and then have the leader prepare the draft product to be distributed to all participants, edited and finalized for publication.

Vendor conference – all companies competing to be prime or sub-contractors, met with representatives from the project team. All were identified as working for either project team or industry without compromising the anonymity of any party.  All had equal opportunity to ask or answer questions posed by the other side. This levelled the playing field and avoided the necessity of the team having separate meetings with each company.
